Charette
Thank you for joining us at the Agricola Property- Public Design Charrette on March 20th , 21st, and April 2nd – 6th.
During the charrette, The Agricola Family and consultant, Town Planning and Urban Design Collaborative, invited the citizens of Clay County, elected and appointed officials and county staff to work collaboratively with the landowners and their design team to envision a conservation and neighborhood plan for the future of the property at the intersection of US Hwy 17 and Leno Road. All events were open to the public and were hosted to facilitate feedback and collaboration on a plan for the property.
On the first day of the Charrette the team held the Opening Presentation and Hands-on Workshop at the Clay Theater. The following days of the charette featured Technical Meetings at the Thrasher-Horne Conference Center. All technical meetings were open to the public and became a place where residents shared their hopes and concerns related to transportation, housing, parks and recreation, character, growth, development, conservation, and sustainability.
Throughout these conversations, there were a few common themes we heard. Many expressed hopes for meaningful job creation (lamenting long commutes to current employers in Jacksonville and beyond), hopes for nature trails and walkable streets that connect new and existing homes to restaurants, shops and businesses, and hopes for future development to prioritize the preservation of Clay County’s rural character, reforestation, wetland preservation, and agriculture at-all-scales.
On the final evening of the Charrette, the Team presented their findings thus far and began to discuss how community input shaped the recommendations that will likely be in the development plan for the property.

What's Next?
Over the next few months, the team will be working to combine the two conceptual master plans, shown at the final presentation, and incorporate many of the ideas formed during the Charrette into the Final Master Plan that will be included in our submittals for entitlement. Through this process, we will be exploring opportunities to protect wetlands, connect and restore natural systems and drainage patterns, utilize context sensitive sustainable low impact development practices, introduce more hardwoods to the existing stands of pine, employ native trees and landscaping, provide a robust system of trails, open space and parks and establish Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). We will be analyzing these elements from a site planning perspective, as well as assessing the commercial market, financial feasibility, and prospect of entitlement of these big ideas in the community of Clay County, FL. In order to provide an alternative to the status quo of development it will take everyone’s support and feedback throughout the process.
